Questions To Ask Any Dojo

If you are thinking of enrolling your child in a martial arts program, here are three things you should ask every school you interview:

Who designed the program that my child will be following?

At Claremont Karate Kung Fu, your child’s health and development are our first priority. All of our children’s programs were built around the recommendations of an advisory panel which consists of sports physical therapists and children’s health professionals. We pride ourselves in being on the forefront of safety in developmental training. Our programs are challenging and athletic while respecting the growth process of each individual child through every stage of their development. In this way, every child begins to see exercise as a positive experience and pathway to a fit and focused future.

Do you do a background check on your instructors?

We understand that you have the right to know the history and nature of the individuals that are going to be working with your children, especially those who your child may view as a role model or example of what an adult should be.  At Claremont Karate Kung Fu, we take this responsibility very seriously and strive to live up to every child’s expectation. Our entire floor staff is fingerprinted with a cleared background check through Live Scan. In addition to being CPR and First Aid certified, every instructor participates in an ongoing training program. We do this in order to provide the highest quality service possible. Each and every time a Kyokumaru Black Belt steps onto the mat, s/he recites the Instructor’s Creed: “ I will teach this class because it is the most important class that I will ever teach”.

What is this dojo’s mission statement?

Ours is simple: To empower people and enrich their lives through martial arts. At Claremont Karate Kung Fu, we call it the Tao of being human. We teach our students that Karate never hits first, that Karate begins and ends with respect and no matter what you wish for, you only get what you work for. We teach our students that tough times don’t last, but tough people do.  At first, they see a Black Belt as this magical master who can break bricks and throw people through the air.  Eventually, they come to realize that the Black Belt is simply the White Belt who never gave up. This is the greatest lesson we can teach and we teach it every day.
